AUSTIN, TX — September 2, 2026 (SMWIRE) — BTM Controls today announced the BTM-MICRO-8, a miniature universal I/O controller that packs a complete networked control node into a deck-of-cards footprint. The device enters production alongside the company’s broader controller line in Q1 2027.

At 3.4 cubic inches — roughly the size of a deck of cards, with a U.S. quarter for scale — the BTM-MICRO-8 carries capabilities normally found in controllers several times its size: isolated Power-over-Ethernet (IEEE 802.3af) with 10/100 Ethernet, dual-band wireless (Wi-Fi plus LoRa), four universal analog inputs (0–10 V, 0–30 V, or 4–20 mA), two digital/pulse inputs, two potential-free relays, a 1-Wire sensor bus, I²C expansion, and a 9–36 VDC auxiliary input.

It is, BTM Controls says, the only controller in its footprint with this much capability.

Everything a control node needs — nothing it doesn’t

The BTM-MICRO-8 was designed around one question: what does a modern field controller actually need? The answer drove a clean, no-compromise channel model:

  • Four universal analog inputs — software-configurable for 0–10 V, 0–30 V, or 4–20 mA loops, with precision front-end protection for real-world field wiring.
  • Two digital / contact / pulse inputs — for dry contacts, flow pulses, and event counting.
  • Two potential-free SPST-NO relays — rated for control switching, not mains.
  • Isolated PoE Ethernet (IEEE 802.3af) plus onboard 10/100 Ethernet — one cable delivers both power and data.
  • Wi-Fi and LoRa — dual SMA-connected radios mean the same unit can join a facility LAN or ride a long-range wireless mesh. No other controller in this class offers both.
  • 1-Wire and I²C — plug in temperature sensors or expand to nearby peripherals without extra hardware.
  • 9–36 VDC auxiliary input — OR-ed with PoE, so it runs on almost any site power.
  • USB-C — service and configuration only, keeping field power paths clean and isolated.

Built for installers, priced for scale

Every BTM-MICRO-8 ships with an integrated local dashboard, secure first-boot provisioning, REST APIs, and MQTT support — so it drops into existing networks without proprietary gateways or cloud lock-in. The wide DC input, PoE option, and isolated field connections let a single SKU cover HVAC, lighting, access, irrigation, energy monitoring, and industrial sensing applications.
